The key question is what the scratch has damaged. If colour, primer or bare metal is exposed but the panel shape is still sound, the repair may involve preparing the damaged area and restoring the appropriate paint layers.
If the scratch is combined with a dent, crease, gouge, corrosion or earlier unstable repair material, bodywork may need to be completed before the panel can be refinished.
